Bio

Bethel began training martial arts in January of 1980 at the age of 18. Since then, he has trained in many different styles, including Taekwondo (ITF & WTF, including 10 years with the Berkeley team at UC Berkeley under the guidance of Dr. Ken Min), Okinawa Te, Tai Chi (Yang & Chen styles, as well as International Compulsory), Contemporary Wushu (with Sifu Bryant Fong of the UC Berkeley and San Francisco Wushu Teams and the United States Wushu/Kungfu Federation) Traditional Chinese Kungfu, and Korean Hapkido/Yongmudo (Dr. Norman Link at UC Berkeley). During his 20's and early 30's, Bethel competed regularly, including several appearanaces in the California state championships, and at one time was kyukpa champion in the state of California.

During the period 1993 – 1999, Bethel held the title of Head Instructor of Taekwondo at Kim's Traditional Martial Arts Institute/United Black Belts of America in San Anselmo, CA. He was responsible for curriculum development and instruction for all levels of ability.

Bethel currently holds the rank of 4th Dan in Taekwondo, recognized by the Korean Kukkiwon and World Taekwondo Federation, and is a United States Taekwondo Union Certified level D-2 Taekwondo referee. He currently trains Choy Lay Fut traditional Kung Fu at the E.Y. Lee Kung Fu School in San Francisco, CA (Sifu E.Y. Lee).
